Where to stay in Kuta Lombok with kids
Kuta Lombok is the most convenient base in South Lombok for families who like having restaurants, cafés, small shops, and beaches close together. It’s easy to get around, works well as a central hub for exploring nearby beaches, and offers the widest range of family-friendly accommodation in the area.
It’s a great choice if you want comfort and flexibility while still enjoying Lombok’s natural beauty.

Where to stay in Selong Belanak with kids
Selong Belanak is all about easy, stress-free beach days with kids. The beach is long, wide, and perfect for playing, walking, and spending full days by the sea. Accommodation here is more spread out and peaceful, making it ideal for families who mainly want to relax and enjoy nature.
It’s especially nice if your kids love beach time and you prefer a slower pace.

Choose Selong Belanak if you want:
✔ quick access to one of Lombok’s best family beaches
✔ long, relaxed beach days with kids
✔ more open space and a calmer setting
✔ a quieter, beach-focused base (with fewer shops nearby)
💡 Crew Tip: For longer stays with young kids, we loved being close to Selong Belanak for easy beach days, while heading to Kuta Lombok every now and then for groceries, meals, and small errands. That way, we enjoyed relaxed beach time without missing the convenience of town.

The Gili Islands are one of the most fun and relaxed places to stay in Lombok with kids. With no cars, short distances, and clear shallow water for snorkeling, island life here feels easy and stress-free for families.
Each island has a different atmosphere, so the best choice depends on whether you prefer lively surroundings, total peace, or a balanced family vibe.
👉 For a full breakdown of all three islands with activities and tips, read our complete Gili Islands with Kids guide.

Where to stay on Gili Air with kids (our top family pick)
Gili Air is the best all-round island for families in our experience. It’s peaceful without being boring, has great cafés and beach spots, and offers some of the easiest snorkeling straight from shore.
Everything is walkable, the vibe is relaxed, and it simply feels very easy with young children.

Where to stay on Gili Meno with kids (quiet & peaceful)
Gili Meno is the smallest and calmest of the islands. It’s perfect for families who want to fully slow down, enjoy beautiful empty beaches, and focus on beach time and rest.
There are fewer restaurants and activities, but the peaceful setting is hard to beat.
Family-friendly stays on Gili Meno:
- Divine Divers Gili Meno – relaxed beachfront stay with a pool and easy snorkeling access, great for slow family days
- BASK Gili Meno – stylish boutique hotel close to the beach with spacious rooms and a calm atmosphere
- MAHAMAYA Gili Meno – beautiful beachfront resort with large rooms, a great restaurant and plenty of space for families

Where to stay on Gili Trawangan with kids (lively but fun)
Gili Trawangan is the busiest island. It has more restaurants, shops, and activities, especially around the harbour area. While parts can feel crowded, quieter areas further north are much more family-friendly.
It’s a great choice if you like energy and convenience.
Family-friendly stays on Gili Trawangan:
- Jambuluwuk Oceano Gili Trawangan – spacious resort with pools and a playground, perfect for active kids
- Vila Ombak – great central location near the beach with large rooms and family facilities

✔ more activities and small playgrounds
✔ the liveliest island atmosphere

✔ great beaches and snorkeling around the island
✔ a relaxed but not boring family vibe
Choose Gili Meno if you want:
✔ a quieter and slower-paced stay
✔ beautiful beaches with fewer people
✔ a peaceful setting that still feels comfortable for families
💡 Crew Tip: Exploring the Gili Islands by bike is easy and fun with kids. Many rental shops offer child seats, but they’re limited, so it’s best to reserve one in advance, especially in high season.

North Lombok is the most adventurous area to visit in Lombok with kids. It offers waterfalls, jungle scenery, cooler mountain air, and outdoor experiences that feel completely different from the beach regions.
For families, Senaru is by far the most practical and enjoyable base. It’s close to Lombok’s most famous waterfalls and offers a calm village atmosphere that works surprisingly well with young children.
North Lombok takes a bit more effort to reach than the beach areas, but for many families it becomes one of the most memorable parts of their Lombok trip.
Quick Facts: staying in North Lombok with kids
- ✅ Best for: waterfalls, jungle scenery & outdoor adventure
- 📍 Best family base: Senaru
- 😎 Overall feel: cool, green, adventurous & peaceful
- 👧🏻 Works well for: toddlers & active families
- 🏡 Accommodation style: lodges, small hotels & mountain-view stays
- ✨ Highlights: Tiu Kelep Waterfall, Sendang Gila Waterfall, Bukit Selong viewpoint
Where to stay in Senaru with kids
Senaru is the best place to stay in North Lombok with kids, especially if you want to visit the region’s famous waterfalls without long travel days. From the village, it’s easy to reach jungle trails, rivers, and shaded paths that even young children can manage with breaks.
Visiting Sendang Gile Waterfall and Tiu Kelep Waterfall is a real highlight. The walk involves steps, forest paths, and river crossings, so it’s a bit of a workout, but the reward is huge: powerful waterfalls, clear pools, and an experience that feels truly special.
If you’re traveling Lombok with small kids, these waterfalls are absolutely doable with the right expectations. In our detailed guide, we explain exactly how to visit Tiu Kelep and Sendang Gila with kids, including walking times, safety tips, and what to bring.
💡 Crew Tip: We recommend staying in Senaru for 1–2 nights to enjoy the waterfalls at a relaxed pace. Bukit Selong works best as a day trip from Senaru or as a scenic stop on your way toward East Lombok, rather than as a place to stay with kids.
Family-friendly stays in Senaru
- Rinjani Lodge – beautiful views over jungle and mountains, spacious rooms, and a peaceful setting close to the waterfalls
- Rinjani Lighthouse Hotel – comfortable, family-friendly rooms with great scenery and good value
Bukit Selong with Kids – a must-see highlight (day trip)
While we don’t recommend Sembalun as a base with kids, it’s absolutely worth visiting for the views. The drive to Bukit Selong takes you through wide valleys and farmland, and the viewpoint itself offers one of the most impressive panoramas in Lombok.
The short walk up can be quite steep and slippery, especially after rain, so it’s more of a small adventure than a casual stroll. With a bit of care, it’s still very doable with kids and makes for a memorable stop from Senaru or on your way toward East Lombok.

East Lombok is the best area to stay in Lombok with kids if you’re looking for quiet beaches, clear shallow water, and a true off-the-beaten-path experience. This part of the island is home to the East Lombok Secret Gilis, a small group of tropical islands that feel completely different from the busier Gili Islands in the north.
Families come here mainly for calm beach days. In addition, island hopping to places like Gili Kondo, Gili Kapal, and Gili Bidara is easy and relaxing. Shallow water, gentle snorkeling, and hardly any crowds make this area especially suitable for families with young children.
If you’re wondering how to visit these islands with kids, we explain everything step by step in our detailed East Lombok Secret Gilis with Kids guide, including boat trips, timing, and what to expect on the water.
Quick Facts: staying in East Lombok with kids
- ✅ Best for: secret islands, quiet beaches & calm water
- 📍 Best family base: East Lombok coast near the Secret Gilis
- 😎 Overall feel: remote, peaceful & untouched
- 👧🏻 Works well for: toddlers & young kids (babies possible with planning)
- 🏡 Accommodation style: small-scale beachfront stays
- ✨ Highlights: Gili Kondo, Gili Kapal & Gili Bidara
Where to stay in East Lombok with kids
Accommodation options in East Lombok are limited compared to South Lombok or the Gili Islands, but that’s exactly what keeps this area so special. For families, staying close to the Secret Gilis makes a huge difference.
Our top family pick in East Lombok
- Bidara Cottage Lombok – a truly family-friendly stay close to the East Lombok Secret Gilis, with everything you need when traveling with young kids.
This was one of the most child-friendly places we stayed in Lombok. They provided baby cots and extra beds, high chairs, and happily prepared fresh meals tailored to our kids. The pool area is perfect for downtime, and the location makes it easy to reach the boats heading to the Secret Gilis.
If you’re traveling East Lombok with kids, this is hands-down the most practical and comfortable base.
Why East Lombok is worth the effort with kids
✔ crystal-clear, shallow water
✔ island hopping without crowds
✔ relaxed pace and lots of space
✔ very kid-friendly snorkeling
✔ a unique Lombok experience most travelers miss
💡 Crew Tip: If you’re dreaming of those picture-perfect tropical beaches with clear water and hardly any crowds, East Lombok is a place you really don’t want to miss on your family trip.

Central Lombok is a beautiful countryside area to stay with kids if you’re looking for rice fields, village life, and a slower pace of travel. The heart of this region is Tetebatu, a small mountain village known for its green landscapes and peaceful atmosphere.
Instead of beaches, you’ll find walking paths through rice terraces, small waterfalls, local farms, and open views toward Mount Rinjani. It’s not a must-visit for every family, but it’s a lovely break if you enjoy nature and quiet surroundings.
Quick Facts: staying in Central Lombok with kids
- ✅ Best for: rice fields, village life & slow travel
- 📍 Best family base: Tetebatu

West Lombok is a convenient region to stay in Lombok with kids if you’re looking for easier logistics, comfortable hotels, and shorter transfer times. It’s more developed than other parts of the island, which makes traveling with young children simpler.
The two main family-friendly options here are staying in Senggigi for resort-style comfort, or staying on the Southwest Lombok Secret Gilis for quiet island life.
Quick Facts: staying in West Lombok with kids

- 😎 Overall feel: convenient, relaxed & developed
- 👶🏻 Works well for: families who like comfort and slower pacing
- 🏡 Accommodation style: resorts, beachfront hotels & island bungalows
- ✨ Highlights: calm beaches, resort pools, quiet tropical islands
Where to stay in Senggigi with kids
Senggigi is the most developed beach town in West Lombok, with larger resorts, calm beaches, and plenty of dining options. While it’s not our first choice compared to South Lombok or the Gili Islands, it can be a good option for families who prefer staying in one comfortable place with hotel facilities close by.
It works especially well if you’re arriving late, leaving early, or simply want a classic resort-style stay.
Family-friendly stays in Senggigi
- Jeeva Klui Resort – peaceful beachfront resort just outside Senggigi with spacious rooms, beautiful gardens, and a calm atmosphere that works well for families
- Holiday Resort Lombok – classic family resort with large pools, wide beachfront, and plenty of space for kids to play
- Katamaran Hotel & Resort Lombok – modern beachfront hotel with family rooms, great views, and a comfortable resort setup
Where to stay on the Southwest Lombok Secret Gilis with kids
The Southwest Secret Gilis are perfect if you’re looking for slow island life, quiet beaches, and clear water without crowds. Staying on the islands themselves is the best way to experience this area.
Family-friendly stays on the Southwest Secret Gilis
- Gili Asahan Eco Lodge & Restaurant – eco-style beachfront bungalows in a quiet natural setting, great for families who want relaxed island days
- Bleu Mathis Gili Asahan – stylish but peaceful beachfront stay with comfortable rooms and calm waters right outside
💡 Crew Tip: Central Lombok is all about slowing down. In Tetebatu, days naturally move at a slower pace, with kids playing in nature, short walks through rice fields, and plenty of fresh air instead of rushing from one highlight to the next.

What makes the island so special is how easy it is to combine different travel styles in one trip. As a result, you don’t have to constantly pack up and rush between places. With the right bases, Lombok becomes both adventurous and wonderfully relaxed.

The Little Passport Crew
The best areas to stay in Lombok with kids are South Lombok for wide family-friendly beaches, the Gili Islands for relaxed island life and snorkeling, North Lombok for waterfalls and nature, and East Lombok for quiet tropical beaches and the Secret Gilis. Each region offers a different family travel experience, depending on whether you prefer beach time, adventure, or slow travel.
Yes, Lombok works very well for families with babies and toddlers, especially in South Lombok, the Gili Islands, and resort-style areas. Wide beaches, relaxed pacing, family-friendly hotels, and short travel distances between main regions make it a comfortable destination when traveling with young children.
For the best kid-friendly beaches in Lombok, families should stay in South Lombok near Selong Belanak and Kuta Lombok, or in East Lombok near the Secret Gilis. These areas offer wide sandy beaches, calmer water, and plenty of space for children to play without crowds.
Most families enjoy staying 3–5 nights in South Lombok, 3–4 nights on the Gili Islands, 1–2 nights in North Lombok for waterfalls, and 1–2 nights in East Lombok for the Secret Gilis. This pacing keeps travel days short while allowing enough time to enjoy each region.
Both work great with kids, but they offer different experiences. Lombok is better for variety with beaches, waterfalls, countryside, and road trips, while the Gili Islands are perfect for slow island life, snorkeling, and car-free days. Many families combine both for the best of both worlds.
