Our Favorite Things to Do in Phuket as a Family

We spent 4 days on Phuket and had a great time with our kids, and it fit perfectly into our 2-week Thailand itinerary with kids. While we didn’t try every activity ourselves, we experienced several highlights and talked with other traveling families about their favorites. Phuket is easy to return to, so there’s always something left for the next visit.

To make planning even easier for parents, we’ve put together a Phuket with Kids –Quick Guide (PDF) showing the best areas and helpful resources. Here’s a quick reference to our other Phuket blogs:

1. Top Things To Do in Phuket with Kids

Looking for fun family activities in Khao Lak? From calm beaches to gentle hikes, bamboo rafting, and Khao Sok adventures, Khao Lak offers plenty to keep kids of all ages entertained.

1.1 💦 Andamanda Water Park Phuket – Perfect for Kids & Families

Andamanda Water Park is one of Phuket’s top spots for families with kids. We had a great time here, even our little ones could safely enjoy the smaller splash areas. The park is easy to reach by car or taxi (Grab), and there are plenty of shaded areas and cafés nearby for breaks. With slides, lazy rivers, and kid-friendly pools, it’s perfect for a full day of adventure. Our kids especially loved the mini slides and splash zones. Bringing sunscreen and towels is recommended.

Practical tips:

  • Bring water shoes – we love Slipstop watershoes, but Bigib is a nice alternative
  • Lockers available for personal items
  • Arrive early to avoid lines

1.2 💦 Splash Jungle Water Park for Kids

Splash Jungle Water Park is perfect for families looking for a full day of water fun. Our kids loved all the different splash areas and slides. There’s plenty for little ones to explore safely. Conveniently, it’s close to the airport, so it works really well as a last-day activity. You can even store your bags temporarily while you play, and after a full day in the water our kids slept really well on the flight home.

Practical tips:

  • Bring water shoes – we love Slipstop watershoes, but Bigib is a nice alternative
  • Lockers available for personal items
  • Arrive early to avoid lines
  • Great choice for your last day in Phuket

1.3 🚤 Coral Island Tour – Easy Island Trip with Kids

Coral Island is one of the most family-friendly island trips from Phuket. The short boat ride makes a huge difference with little kids, the journey is usually calm and only takes about 20 minutes. Once you arrive, you’ll find a long sandy beach, shallow turquoise water and plenty of space for kids to play. Most tours include lunch and beach chairs, so the day stays relaxed instead of rushed. Snorkeling is possible right off the beach, although visibility can vary by season.

With kids, a private tour is often the easiest option: you can go at your own pace, take breaks when needed, and you’re not tied to a group schedule.

Practical tips:

  • Bring snacks and drinks for your kids
  • A rash guard or T-shirt is useful for swimming to avoid sunburn; always check for 👉 UPF 50+ or check out our own designed rashguards
  • If your kids get seasick easily, choose a morning speedboat
  • Most tours include snorkel gear but not usually kids-sized equipment, so bring your own if your children like snorkeling

1.4 🚤 James Bond Island Tour – Impressive Scenery and Big Adventure for Families

The James Bond Island tour takes you through the amazing limestone cliffs and emerald bays of Phang Nga Bay. The landscapes are stunning and older kids usually love the mix of boat rides, caves and viewpoints. It is, however, a long day trip, so if you are traveling with babies or very young children this one can feel tiring.

Families who want more flexibility often book a private tour so you can decide how long you stay at each stop and avoid the busiest times. A speedboat tour is another good option for families who want to spend less time on the water and hop between stops a bit faster.

Practical tips:

  • Water shoes are helpful for rocky beach entries and cave areas; check out 👉 these options
  • Bring a dry bag to keep phones and valuables safe during boat transfers. We use a small dry bag like 👉 this one.
  • Sun protection is essential because many parts of the tour are not shaded
  • If traveling with small kids, pack extra snacks and lightweight towels
  • Consider a private tour if you want breaks and flexibility around nap times

If you’re traveling through Thailand with kids, the Thailand Bingo adds a playful element to everyday sights.

1.5 🏝 Maya Bay & Phi Phi Islands – Bucket List Experience for Families

The Maya Bay and Phi Phi Islands tour is one of the most famous day trips from Phuket. The bright turquoise water, limestone cliffs and soft white sand feel straight out of a movie. Older kids usually love the boat ride, the snorkeling spots and the chance to explore several beaches in one day. It is, however, a long tour and there is no realistic option for a completely private route. Most families join a speedboat tour which is the fastest way to move between stops and limits travel time on the water.

We did not do this tour when our daughter was one year old because the full-day duration felt too long for her at that age. Still, Maya Bay is a place you will want to see at least once in your life and we definitely plan to return for this tour when our kids are a little older.

Practical tips:

  • Water shoes are helpful for beach entries and shallow rocky areas – check out 👉 these options
  • Most tours include snorkel gear but not usually kids-sized equipment, so bring your own if your children like snorkeling
  • A small dry bag keeps phones, snacks and cash safe during transfers
  • Sun protection is essential because shade is limited during stops
  • If traveling with smaller kids, pack extra drinks and lightweight towels
  • Choose a speedboat tour instead of a longtail boat to reduce travel time between islands

1.6 🐘 Phuket Elephant Sanctuary – Ethical Elephant Experience for Kids

Phuket Elephant Sanctuary is a calm and family-friendly way to see elephants up close while supporting an ethical project. The sanctuary rescues elephants and allows them to live freely without riding or shows, which makes the whole experience relaxed and respectful. Kids get to watch the elephants eat, splash around and wander through nature, and parents don’t have to worry about forced interactions or unsafe situations.

The elevated walkways make it easy to explore with children, and there are shaded seating areas where you can take a snack break. If your family loves animals, this is a really memorable activity to add to your list of top things to do with kids in Phuket.

Practical tips:

  • Mosquito repellent and lightweight sun protection recommended
  • Morning program is the most comfortable for kids and sells out first
  • Great for families who prefer quiet, educational activities instead of zoos or animal shows
  • Book in advance!

1.7 🦖 Dino Park Mini Golf Phuket – Fun Adventure for Kids of All Ages

Dino Park Mini Golf is a playful and entertaining spot for families looking for a break from the beaches. The course is filled with life-sized dinosaur models, fun obstacles, and plenty of shade, making it a hit for younger kids as well as older ones. It’s a lighthearted way to spend an hour or two and fits perfectly on a top things to do with kids in Phuket itinerary.

Kids can chase dinosaurs, putt around on the course, and enjoy the little themed surprises scattered throughout. Parents can relax while still being part of the fun, and it’s a great indoor-outdoor mix if you want a break from the sun.

Practical tips

  • Bring sun protection and hats for younger children
  • Comfortable shoes recommended for walking around the course
  • Small snacks and water bottles are handy
  • Perfect as a short activity between beach days or on a rainy afternoon

1.8 🏄‍♂️ Surf Lessons at Kata Beach – Active Fun for Older Kids

Surf lessons at Kata Beach are a fun way for active kids to get moving and try something new. The beach has gentle waves in certain areas, making it safe for beginners and older children who are ready for a small challenge. This activity is a great addition to a top things to do with kids in Phuket list for families who want both adventure and skill-building in one day.

Instructors usually provide boards and safety gear, and lessons can be booked per child or in small groups. Parents can relax on the sand nearby while kids enjoy learning to surf, or even join in for some family fun. Check out these surf lessons, perfect for kids aged 6 and up!

Practical tips:

  • Bring a rash guard for sun protection; always check for 👉 UPF 50+
  • Apply waterproof sunscreen before hitting the waves
  • Early morning lessons are cooler and less crowded
  • Make sure kids are comfortable in the water before booking

1.9 🏖️ Best Beaches for Kids in Phuket – Sand, Sun, and Family Fun

Phuket is home to many family-friendly beaches with kids, making it a must on any top things to do with kids in Phuket itinerary. Beaches like Kamala, Kata, and Karon have gentle waves, soft sand, and plenty of nearby restaurants and cafés where parents can relax while little ones play safely. Bang Tao and Mai Khao are ideal for families seeking more space and a quieter environment.

Each beach has its own vibe, so families can choose based on kids’ ages, activities, and personal preferences. Building in some beach time is a perfect way to balance adventure with rest during your Phuket trip.

Practical tips

  • Bring sun hats, umbrellas, and plenty of sunscreen
  • Pack snacks and water, especially for younger children
  • Arrive early to secure a good spot near facilities
  • Consider beaches with calm waters (Kamala) for toddlers and babies

1.10 🏯 Big Buddha, Old Town & Viewpoints – Culture and Scenic Fun for Families

Exploring Phuket beyond the beaches is a great way to add culture and sightseeing to your list of top things to do with kids in Phuket. Big Buddha has sweeping island views and a peaceful atmosphere, Old Town is full of colorful Sino-Portuguese streets and cafés, and the viewpoints offer fun photo stops and nice sunset moments.

You can visit each place separately at your own pace, or combine them into one sightseeing day. Many families book a private tour so you can decide how long you stay at each stop and choose the order that suits naps and energy levels. If you prefer to go independently, Grab (Southeast Asia’s taxi app) works great for short distances between stops.

For parents traveling without a local SIM, an eSIM makes it super easy to order rides anywhere on the island, and through our link you can get 👉 15% off your eSIM.

Practical tips:

  • Bring water, hats, and sunscreen, especially for Big Buddha
  • Strollers can be tricky on hills and old streets, bring a carrier if you have one. We absolutely love our 👉 Tula carrier
  • Mornings and late afternoons are cooler and less crowded
  • If sightseeing with kids, snacks work wonders between stops

Wondering which stroller or which carrier works best? We’ve shared the travel gear we use when exploring Asia with kids in a detailed guide.

1.11 🐠 Phuket Aquarium – Indoor Fun and Sea Life for Kids

Phuket Aquarium is one of the best indoor things to do with kids in Phuket, especially on days when the weather is too hot or rainy for the beach. Families love the big tunnel aquarium, colorful reef fish, and the touch tanks that keep younger kids entertained. It is not as large as big aquariums in major cities, but it is fun, low effort and relaxing for all ages.

If you are combining activities, the aquarium is near Cape Panwa Viewpoint and some calm beaches.

Practical tips:

  • Great rainy-day activity for families
  • Stroller friendly
  • Best visited earlier in the day before the school groups arrive
  • Small café on site for snacks and drinks

🎟️ Book Phuket Aquaria tickets here

1.12 🎭 Phuket FantaSea – Big Evening Show and Theme Park for Families

Phuket FantaSea is one of the most famous evening activities for families in Phuket. It combines a live theatrical show with acrobatics, music, costumes and special effects. Before the show, there is a theme-park style village with shops and small attractions, which makes it feel like a complete night out with the kids. Many families list it as a highlight because it feels different from a normal day of swimming or sightseeing.

It is good to know that the show is loud and intense at times. For some kids this is super exciting and magical, while very young or sensitive children may prefer to skip or sit closer to the exit. The show is long, so plan for a later bedtime.

Practical tips:

  • Arrive early to explore the village before the show starts
  • The dinner buffet is optional but convenient if you want an easy evening
  • Bring a light sweater for the temperature inside the theater
