For most families visiting Krabi with kids, Ao Nang is the best area to stay. The town is walkable, close to the beach and restaurants, and easy to navigate with a stroller. Staying in central Ao Nang makes day-to-day travel much easier when visiting Krabi with a baby or toddler.
Ao Nang is the main tourist base in Krabi, which is why many families who say they’re staying in “Krabi” are actually staying here. From Ao Nang it’s easy to reach beaches, island tours, and restaurants without long travel times.
When traveling to Krabi with kids, location matters more than luxury. In Krabi, most families stay in Ao Nang because the town is compact, walkable, and close to beaches, restaurants, and island tours.
Ao Nang is compact and easy to walk around, with the beach, restaurants, pharmacies, and shops all close by. This makes a big difference when traveling with a baby, toddler, or young children, especially if you want the flexibility to head back to your accommodation during the day.
Families who prefer large pools and resort-style comfort often choose hotels just outside the center, while smaller family-friendly hotels in central Ao Nang usually offer the best value for money without sacrificing location. In Ao Nang, choosing the right area often has more impact on your stay than choosing the most luxurious hotel. This is especially true in the wider Krabi region, where distances between beaches, towns, and tour departure points can vary more than families expect.

We’ve stayed in Ao Nang both with and without kids, and in both cases it felt like an easy and comfortable place to stay. The town is compact, restaurants are close together, and getting around never feels complicated.
When we traveled with our kids (then aged 1 and 3), we stayed in a villa about a 10-minute walk from the beach. That worked perfectly. We were close to restaurants, shops, and the longtail boats for island tours, and most days everything was easy to do with the stroller.
Okay… we did take a tuk-tuk to the beach once, but the kids thought that was the highlight of the day.
For most families visiting Krabi with kids, Ao Nang is simply the easiest base. It’s close to the beach, most island tours depart from here, and everything you need during the day is within walking distance.
Ao Nang also fits naturally into a longer trip through Thailand, and it’s a place we’d happily return to. The beaches and island tours are genuinely beautiful and well worth including. If you’re planning a family route, our Thailand with kids guide gives a broader overview, and our Krabi with kids guide goes deeper into activities and day trips. Ao Nang also works well as a stop in a two-week Thailand itinerary with kids.

Ao Nang is compact, but choosing the right area makes a big difference when traveling with kids. Most families visiting Krabi with kids choose to stay here because it’s close to the beach, restaurants, and the longtail boats that leave for nearby islands.
Some areas are easy and walkable, while others are quieter but come with a bit more logistics. Below, we break down the best areas to stay in Ao Nang with kids, including who they work best for and where families usually stay.

Quick facts: best areas to stay in Ao Nang with kids
- 👶 Best overall with young kids: Central Ao Nang
- 🏖 Quieter beach area near town: Noppharat Thara Beach
- 🏨 More space & bigger pools: Quiet streets just outside the center
- đźš• Least convenient with young kids: Hillside areas around Ao Nang
Central Ao Nang – best area to stay in Ao Nang with kids
For most families visiting Krabi with kids, Central Ao Nang is the easiest area to stay because everything is within walking distance. The beach, restaurants, pharmacies, minimarts, and tour offices are all close together. Also, most streets in central Ao Nang are easy to navigate with a stroller. This makes short walks and quick returns to your hotel much easier with a baby or toddler.
Hotels here range from family-friendly resorts to smaller hotels that offer excellent value without sacrificing location. If this is your first time visiting Ao Nang with kids, staying central keeps everything simple.
âś… Best for:
Families with babies or toddlers, first-time visitors, parents who value walkability and flexibility.
⚠️ Less ideal if:
You’re looking for a secluded resort far away from town.
Family-friendly hotels in Central Ao Nang:
- Aonang Villa Resort – Beachfront location, large pools, and easy access to restaurants
- Holiday Inn Resort Krabi Ao Nang Beach – Reliable family choice with international standards, kids’ facilities, and a central beachfront setting
- Krabi Tipa Resort – Mentioned again here because it combines location and family practicality better than most
Where you stay in Ao Nang also affects how easy day trips around Krabi are with kids. To see which activities and tours work best from each area, check our Top Things to Do in Ao Nang with Kids guide.
đź’ˇ Crew Tip: If your kids still nap in the afternoon, look for a stay with pool access or a private pool. That way, you can relax by the water while the kids sleep, without having to leave your accommodation.

Noppharat Thara Beach – quieter place to stay near Ao Nang with kids
Noppharat Thara Beach is located just next to Ao Nang and offers a calmer, more relaxed beach setting while still staying close to the main town and tour departures. The beach is wider and quieter than Ao Nang Beach, and many larger family-friendly resorts are located along this stretch.
While there are fewer restaurants directly on the beach, Ao Nang town is still reachable on foot or with a short tuk-tuk ride. For families with babies or toddlers, it’s good to know that most baby supplies, pharmacies, and larger shops are concentrated in central Ao Nang, so you’ll likely head into town for things like diapers or specific essentials.
That said, this is usually a short and easy trip, and for many families Noppharat Thara offers a nice balance between a quieter beach setting and access to Ao Nang’s facilities.
âś… Best for:
Families who want a quieter beach, larger resorts, and easy access to Ao Nang.
⚠️ Less ideal if:
You want restaurants, shops, and tour offices directly outside your hotel.
Family-friendly hotels near Noppharat Thara Beach:
- Loma Place – Budget-friendly option near the beach
- Doo Dee Boutique Resort – Small-scale, relaxed resort with a quieter vibe
Just outside Central Ao Nang – family hotels, villas, and more space
Just outside central Ao Nang, you’ll find quieter streets with slightly larger hotels, resorts, and more private villas, often with pool access or private pools. These areas feel calmer, especially in the evenings, and usually offer more space for kids to play.
Because these accommodations aren’t directly in the center, they’re often better value for money. Especially if you’re traveling as a family and want more space without paying for a central location.
The trade-off is that daily walks are a bit longer, and families with young kids may occasionally rely on tuk-tuks rather than walking everywhere. For some families, this balance between space, comfort, and convenience works very well.
âś… Best for:
Families who want more space, private pools, or a quieter setting, especially with toddlers or slightly older kids.
⚠️ Less ideal if:
You want to walk everywhere easily with a stroller.
Family-friendly hotels and villas just outside the center:
- The Scene Cliff View Villas – Private pool villas with space for kids
- Aonang Hill Krabi – Elevated location with views, more space, and resort-style facilities
💡 Crew Tip: When we traveled with our kids, we stayed in this type of area and found it ideal for a relaxed daily rhythm. We’d head out in the morning for activities or the beach, and spend the afternoons at our own place, which was especially nice with younger kids.

Hillside Areas Around Ao Nang – less convenient with young kids
Some accommodations are located higher up in the hills or further away from Ao Nang town. While these places can offer views, privacy, and a greener setting, they usually involve steep roads, limited sidewalks, and frequent taxi use.
With young kids, this often means less flexibility and more planning than most families want on a relaxed beach trip. If you’re unsure how this works in practice, our guide on getting around Thailand with kids explains what transport options are realistic when traveling with babies and toddlers.
âś… Best for:
Couples or travelers without kids.
⚠️ Less ideal if:
You’re traveling with babies or toddlers or want to move around easily during the day.

Railay Beach is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Krabi with kids, known for its dramatic limestone cliffs and turquoise water. Visually, it’s stunning and often tempting for families planning their stay, and it’s frequently mentioned as one of the most beautiful beaches in Thailand for kids.
However, Railay is only accessible by longtail boat from Ao Nang, which adds extra logistics when traveling with kids. You’re also more limited in terms of shops, restaurants, and medical facilities. With babies or toddlers, this reduced flexibility can make daily planning more complicated.
It’s also worth noting that strollers are less practical on Railay due to sandy paths and uneven surfaces. Families traveling with young children often find that a baby carrier works better than a stroller here.
If you’re traveling with a baby or toddler, having the right gear makes a big difference in Krabi’s heat and when walking around places like Ao Nang or Railay. In our guides to essential travel gear for Southeast Asia with kids and our Thailand packing list for families, we share what actually worked for us during our trip.
Railay can work well for families with older children or for a short, relaxed stay, but for most families with young kids, Ao Nang is usually a more practical base for exploring Krabi with kids.
âś… Best for:
Families with older kids, short stays, travelers who prioritize scenery.
⚠️ Less ideal if:
You’re traveling with a baby, rely heavily on a stroller, or want easy access to tours and facilities.
Family-friendly hotels in Railay:
- Rayavadee – Exceptional setting and service, but very expensive
- Sand Sea Resort – More affordable option with beachfront access and family rooms

Krabi Town is the administrative center of the province and has a more local Thai atmosphere than beach areas like Ao Nang. You’ll find night markets, temples, and local restaurants here, and prices are often lower than in the main tourist areas.
However, we personally wouldn’t recommend staying in Krabi Town when traveling to Krabi with kids.
The main reason is simple: Krabi Town isn’t near the beach. Most of the activities families come to Krabi for, like island tours, beaches, and boat trips, are located around Ao Nang and the nearby islands.
If you stay in Krabi Town, you’ll usually need taxis or songthaews to reach Ao Nang, Railay, or the tour departure points. With babies or toddlers, those extra transfers can make day trips unnecessarily complicated.
When we plan family trips, we usually prioritize simple logistics and flexibility, especially with young kids. That’s why we personally prefer staying in Ao Nang, where the beach, restaurants, and longtail boats are all within walking distance.
That said, Krabi Town can still make sense in a few situations.
âś… When Krabi Town might work
- Short stopover before traveling onward
- Travelers who prefer a more local Thai atmosphere
- Visiting mainly for markets or temples
⚠️ Less ideal if
- You want easy beach access
- You plan to do island tours from Ao Nang
- You’re traveling with babies or toddlers and want simple daily logistics
For most family trips to Krabi, staying near the beach in Ao Nang simply makes the trip much easier.
Ao Nang is one of the easiest places in Thailand to travel with kids, especially if you choose the right area. For most families visiting Krabi with kids, staying in central Ao Nang keeps days simple and flexible, while nearby areas like Noppharat Thara Beach or quieter streets outside the center can be great alternatives depending on your travel style.
If this is your first time visiting Krabi with kids, starting in central Ao Nang is usually the safest and most convenient option. From here, it’s easy to explore beaches, join island tours, visit Railay Beach, or simply take things at your own pace.
If you’re still deciding, we’d personally start by checking availability in central Ao Nang and then compare a few nearby options to see what fits your family best.

For most families, central Ao Nang is the best area to stay with kids. It’s walkable, close to the beach, restaurants, pharmacies, and tour pick-up points, which makes daily logistics much easier when traveling with babies or toddlers.
Central Ao Nang is usually more practical for families who want everything within walking distance. Noppharat Thara Beach is a good alternative if you prefer a quieter beach and larger resorts, but families with young kids may find themselves going into central Ao Nang more often for shops and baby supplies. Both areas are located in Ao Nang, the main tourist base in Krabi.
Railay Beach is beautiful, but it’s less practical as a base with babies or toddlers. The area is only accessible by boat, facilities are limited, and sandy paths make strollers less convenient. Railay works better for families with older children or for a short, relaxed stay.
Yes. Just outside central Ao Nang, you’ll find many family-friendly villas, often with private pools or pool access. These areas usually offer more space and better value for money, but you may rely more on tuk-tuks instead of walking everywhere.
Most of central Ao Nang is manageable with a stroller, thanks to short distances between the beach, hotels, and restaurants. Sidewalks aren’t perfect everywhere, but many families find it easy enough for daily walks. In areas like Railay, a baby carrier is usually more practical than a stroller.
Krabi Town can work for families who prefer a more local atmosphere and lower prices, but it’s less practical than Ao Nang for most family trips. Krabi Town isn’t near the beach, and reaching Ao Nang’s beaches and island tours usually requires taxis or longer travel times.
