This region is perfect for families wanting easy beach days, great resorts, and kid-friendly facilities, though it can get busy and traffic-heavy during high season.

We’ll be honest, the main reason to stay here is the beach life. Think soft sand, crystal-clear water, and space to run and play. Some beaches (like Dreamland) have bigger waves too, perfect for older kids who love a bit of adventure.

West Bali covers Kuta, Seminyak, Canggu, and the scenic Tanah Lot area, a lively mix of beaches, cafés, and surf culture. This area is perfect for families with older kids who enjoy waves and an active atmosphere. Families with babies may find Kuta and Seminyak a bit too busy and noisy.

Kuta has a bit of a mixed reputation, but to be honest, we have a soft spot for it and have visited often. However, when traveling with babies, we found it a bit too busy and loud. For families with very young children, we wouldn’t recommend Kuta as a first choice, but older kids who enjoy lively beach towns will find plenty to love.

Central Bali is home to Ubud and Sidemen; two lush, green regions filled with rice terraces, waterfalls, and quiet villages. It’s a great choice for families who want a mix of nature, gentle adventure, and a slower pace. Ubud is more developed and offers fun day trips and family cafés, while Sidemen is peaceful and ideal for parents who want to truly unwind, especially with kids who don’t mind taking it slow.

Further northeast, places like Amed, Tulamben and Candidasa offer a slower rhythm, ocean views, and a more local feel.

If you’re staying in East Bali, make sure to plan a visit to Sidemen (technically part of Central Bali); a peaceful village with rice fields and jungle views that’s absolutely worth the detour.

Further up the coast, in places like Amed, Tulamben, and Candidasa, you’ll find peaceful beach hotels, ocean-view villas, and local guesthouses. These spots are more suited to older kids who can handle longer drives and love being close to nature and the sea.

While North Bali is often recommended for families with older kids, we think it’s also great with younger children, especially if you’re up for a bit of adventure. We explored this region with a baby and a toddler, and it worked surprisingly well.

Expect longer transfers and fewer facilities, but if you like a bit of adventure and don’t mind being off the beaten path, North Bali is wonderfully rewarding.

Lovina is a laid-back beach town known for its dolphin tours, local cafés, and family-friendly vibe, a great pick if you want some facilities but still avoid the crowds. We’ve stayed all over Bali with our young kids, including Sanur, Candidasa, Lovina, Ubud, Uluwatu, Nusa Lembongan, and Nusa Dua, and each place had something special to offer.

• Sanur – Calm, shallow beaches and plenty of stroller-friendly paths. This is one of the most relaxed and convenient bases for families.
• Seminyak, Kuta, Legian, and Canggu – Everything you need for a baby or toddler, but these areas are much busier and can feel hectic during high season.
• Ubud – Surrounded by greenery and culture, with baby-friendly villas and good medical facilities nearby.
• Uluwatu – Beautiful and peaceful with amazing ocean views. You’ll need a driver (or your own scooter or car) to get around since distances are quite spread out.
• Lovina – A quiet escape with calm beaches and dolphin tours, but limited amenities and hospitals a bit further away.
• Candidasa – Great for a slow-paced stay by the sea. Fewer crowds and nice family resorts, but not as many restaurants or attractions close by.
• Nusa Dua – Perfect if you love resorts with everything on-site. Spacious beaches, pools, restaurants, and full-service resorts make life very easy with little ones.
