Uluwatu is one of the most scenic areas in Bali for families, especially if you love beautiful beaches, dramatic cliff views and relaxed villa stays near the ocean. Located on the Bukit Peninsula in south Bali, this area feels very different from places like Ubud or Canggu, with more focus on coastal scenery, sunsets and beach days.

Families can spend their days exploring some of the most beautiful beaches in Bali with kids, including Balangan, Dreamland, Bingin and Padang Padang. Every beach feels slightly different, from scenic cliff viewpoints to calmer stretches of sand during low tide.

One of the things we personally love most about Uluwatu is how different it feels from other parts of Bali. Instead of rice fields, cafés and busy town centres, most days here revolve around beach hopping, sunset dinners and relaxing back at your villa after a morning by the ocean.

Uluwatu also works very well as part of a larger Bali itinerary with kids. Many families combine a few beach days here with greener inland areas like Ubud, easier beach towns like Sanur, or even Lombok for slower island travel and quieter beaches.

Uluwatu is mostly about beaches, sunsets and spending time outdoors with the family. Compared to places like Ubud or central Canggu, the atmosphere here is slower and more focused on the coastline, with many activities revolving around beach days, ocean views and relaxed family dinners after sunset.

One of the best things to do in Uluwatu with kids is exploring different beaches across the Bukit Peninsula. Beaches like Balangan, Melasti and Padang Padang all feel completely different, from dramatic cliff scenery to calmer areas during low tide.

Some beaches are easier with kids than others, especially because stairs, rocks and waves can vary a lot depending on the location and tide. Below, we’ll share our favorite beaches in Uluwatu for families in more detail.

Beach clubs are one of the easiest ways to enjoy a relaxed day in Uluwatu with kids, especially during the hotter part of the afternoon. Several beach clubs have pools, shaded seating and direct beach access, making them surprisingly family-friendly during daytime hours.

Sundays Beach Club is one of the best-known options for families thanks to its calmer beach access, beautiful ocean views and relaxed daytime atmosphere. White Rock Beach Club is another popular choice with families, especially because of its large pool area and easier setup for longer stays with kids.

Roosterfish Beach Club near Pandawa Beach is also worth considering for families with younger children. The atmosphere generally feels more relaxed, while the nearby beach area is often easier with kids as well.

Many beach clubs in Uluwatu become more adult-focused towards sunset, so we personally prefer visiting earlier in the day with kids.

Compared to places like Canggu or Sanur, restaurants in Uluwatu are more spread out across the Bukit Peninsula, so families often drive between beaches, cafés and dinner spots during the day. Luckily, there are still several great places that work really well with kids.

Ohana Restaurant is one of our favorite places in Uluwatu with kids thanks to its large playground and relaxed family atmosphere. It’s one of the few places where parents can actually enjoy a longer lunch or dinner while younger kids stay entertained.

The Cashew Tree is another popular family-friendly spot with a laid-back garden setting, healthy food options and plenty of outdoor space for kids. It’s especially nice for slower breakfasts or relaxed lunches after a beach morning.

We also liked Rolling Fork, which has a small playground area that works well for younger children during lunch or dinner.

💡 Crew Tip: There are many great restaurants spread across the Uluwatu area, and we often found it easier to order food to our villa with Grab after long beach days with the kids.

Uluwatu is one of Bali’s most famous surf areas, but families can also find beginner-friendly surf lessons on beaches with calmer conditions depending on the tide and season. For younger kids or first-time surfers, beaches like Balangan and Dreamland are usually easier than the more advanced surf breaks near Uluwatu itself.

Several local surf schools offer private family lessons, which can be a fun activity for older kids and parents together. Even if your children are still too young to surf, many families enjoy spending time on the beach watching local surfers from the cliffs around Bingin or Suluban Beach.

👉 We recommend booking surf lessons in advance during the busy season, especially around July and August when beginner classes can fill up quickly.

The cliffs around Uluwatu are one of the most beautiful parts of south Bali and definitely worth visiting with kids for the scenery alone. The dramatic coastline, ocean views and sunsets make this area feel completely different from most other places in Bali.

We personally love the views around Uluwatu Temple, but we’re honestly not huge fans of the monkeys there. The monkeys around the temple area can be surprisingly aggressive and are known for grabbing sunglasses, phones, hats and bags from visitors. With younger kids, we found ourselves paying more attention to the monkeys than actually relaxing and enjoying the walk.

Luckily, there are several other beautiful cliff viewpoints around Uluwatu if you mainly want to enjoy sunset views without visiting the temple itself. Places around Karang Boma Cliff are especially popular for sunset, while several cliffside cafés and restaurants across the Bukit Peninsula also offer incredible ocean views.

Mana Uluwatu Restaurant is one of the nicer family-friendly sunset spots if you want to combine the cliff scenery with dinner or drinks in a more relaxed setting.

💡 Crew Tip: Many cliff viewpoints in Uluwatu have very limited fencing or barriers near the edge, so we’d recommend keeping younger children close at all times, especially around sunset when it becomes more crowded.

The famous Kecak Fire Dance near Uluwatu Temple is one of Bali’s most well-known cultural performances, combining traditional chanting, fire and dramatic sunset views above the cliffs.

We visited the performance ourselves during earlier trips to Bali and definitely understand why it’s so popular. The setting is beautiful and the atmosphere feels very unique compared to other cultural shows in Bali.

However, during our more recent trips to Uluwatu with young kids, we personally decided not to visit the performance again. Around sunset, the area becomes extremely crowded, temperatures often stay very warm and the show itself can feel quite loud and intense for toddlers or younger children.

Because of this, we’d mainly recommend the Kecak Fire Dance for families with older kids who enjoy cultural performances and don’t mind larger crowds. With younger children, we personally prefer simply watching sunset from one of the nearby cliff viewpoints instead.

Uluwatu has some of the most scenic beaches in Bali, but not every beach works equally well with young kids. Access, stairs, waves and tides can vary a lot depending on the location and time of day.

Melasti Beach is one of the easiest beaches to visit with kids in Uluwatu thanks to its direct road access and wide beach area. Unlike some other beaches on the Bukit Peninsula, you don’t need to walk down endless stairs to reach the sand.

The beach can still get busy during the day, but overall we found it one of the more practical beaches in Uluwatu for families with younger children.

Balangan Beach has a relaxed atmosphere and one of the widest beach areas in Uluwatu. The scenery here is especially beautiful from the cliffs above the beach.

Swimming conditions can vary quite a lot depending on the tide. During lower tide, parts of the beach become more rocky, so it’s not always the easiest beach for swimming with smaller kids.

Padang Padang Beach is honestly one of our personal favorites in Uluwatu with kids, especially with younger children. The beach itself is smaller, but the protected bay can sometimes feel calmer than other beaches around Uluwatu.

You do need to walk down a fairly steep staircase through the cliffs to reach the beach, which can feel a bit challenging with toddlers or beach gear. It also gets very busy during the middle of the day, but visiting earlier in the morning usually feels much more relaxed with kids.

💡 Crew Tip: There are usually a few monkeys around the stairs and entrance area at Padang Padang Beach, so it’s worth keeping an eye on younger kids and loose items like sunglasses, snacks or hats.

Bingin Beach is easily one of the most scenic beaches in Uluwatu, with dramatic cliffs, surf views and beautiful ocean scenery across the coastline.

At the same time, Bingin feels less practical with younger kids because of the steep stairs and more difficult access. The area has also changed quite a lot recently after several cliffside buildings and restaurants around Bingin were demolished in 2025, so parts of the beach area currently feel more open and less developed than before.

Thomas Beach is often slightly quieter than some of the more famous beaches around Uluwatu and has a long stretch of sand that works well for beach walks and relaxed afternoons.

The biggest downside with kids is the long staircase down to the beach. While the beach itself is beautiful, it’s personally not one of our favorite beaches in Uluwatu with younger children because of the access.

Dreamland Beach remains one of our personal favorites in Uluwatu, even though it’s not always the most practical beach with kids. The beach is incredibly scenic, with wide sand, cliffs and turquoise water that almost feels unreal on sunny days.

Wave conditions here can become very strong depending on the season and tide. During one of our latest visits, the waves were far too rough for our kids to safely enter the ocean. We often bring a small inflatable pool for younger children during beach days in Bali, which still works surprisingly well on beaches like Dreamland when the sea is too rough for swimming.

Compared to places like Ubud or Canggu, choosing exactly where to stay in Uluwatu usually matters a bit less for families. Most beaches, restaurants and activities across the Bukit Peninsula still require short drives, regardless of where you stay. For families, the biggest difference is usually the atmosphere around your accommodation, beach access and whether you prefer a relaxed villa stay, a more central surf area or a larger resort with family facilities.

This area works especially well for families who want to stay relatively central within Uluwatu, with easier access to cafés, restaurants and several beaches across the Bukit Peninsula. The atmosphere feels more lively here compared to quieter villa areas around Balangan or Pandawa.

Our favorite family stays in this area:

• Mu Bungalows: relaxed bungalow-style stay with beautiful ocean views and a peaceful atmosphere near Bingin Beach
• Family Nest Resort & Villas: practical family option with larger rooms and good access to different parts of Uluwatu
• Padang Padang Bungalows: one of the more affordable stays we visited in Uluwatu ourselves, with a convenient location near Padang Padang Beach and good access to restaurants and beaches across the Bukit Peninsula

Balangan and Dreamland work very well for families looking for a slower beach atmosphere with scenic cliff views and private villa stays. This part of Uluwatu feels slightly more relaxed and less busy compared to the Bingin area.

Our favorite family stays in this area:

• Biu Biu Resort Bali: smaller resort option with ocean views and good access to beaches around Balangan and Dreamland
• AYANA Villas Bali: one of the most luxurious family stays in Bali, with multiple pools, playgrounds, kids facilities and access to several beaches nearby
• La Joya Balangan Resort: beautiful cliffside resort with a quieter atmosphere near Balangan Beach

Families with younger children often prefer the Melasti and Pandawa area because roads are wider, beach access is generally easier and several larger resorts are located nearby. This area feels a bit more polished and resort-focused compared to the surf atmosphere around Bingin.

Our favorite family stays in this area:

• Renaissance Bali Uluwatu Resort & Spa: family-friendly resort with kids facilities, larger pools and easier access to the southern beaches around Pandawa and Melasti
• Umana Bali, LXR Hotels & Resorts: luxury villa resort with spacious family villas, private pools and beautiful cliff views
• Pandawa Cliff Estate: large private villa estate that works especially well for bigger families or groups traveling together

💡 Crew Tip: In Uluwatu, we personally found it more important to choose a hotel or villa you really enjoy, rather than focusing too much on the exact area. Most families still end up driving between beaches, restaurants and activities across the Bukit Peninsula anyway.

We first visited Uluwatu with our kids when they were just 1 and 3 years old, so we know from experience that this area can absolutely work with babies and toddlers. At the same time, Uluwatu feels less walkable and practical than places like Sanur, so a bit of preparation really helps with young kids.

One of the biggest things to know is that most beaches, cafés and restaurants around Uluwatu are not within easy walking distance, especially with a stroller. Many roads around the Bukit Peninsula have limited sidewalks, so families usually rely on Grab, private drivers or scooters to get around.

The good news is that Grab works very well in Uluwatu, both for transport and food delivery. We often ordered dinner directly to our villa after beach days with the kids.

At the same time, we actually found Uluwatu surprisingly relaxing with younger children because many accommodations are villa-style stays with private pools. For us, mornings were usually for beaches or activities, while afternoons were slower around the villa during nap time.

We generally found Bali very manageable with a baby. Larger supermarkets like Pepito sell essentials including:

• 🍼 Baby food and snacks
• 🧷 Diapers and wipes
• 🧴 Baby toiletries and sunscreen
• 🥛 Milk and basic supplies

Many of these products can also be ordered directly through Grab or local delivery apps.

💡 Crew Tip: Swim diapers can be surprisingly difficult to find in Bali, especially around Uluwatu, so we’d definitely recommend bringing enough from home if your child still needs them.

Most larger restaurants around Uluwatu have high chairs and simple kids meals, especially in more tourist-focused areas around Bingin and Padang Padang.

Changing tables are less common, but staff in Bali are usually very helpful when it comes to finding practical solutions for families with young children. Even when a restaurant doesn’t have a dedicated kids menu, they’re often happy to prepare something simple for toddlers.

Uluwatu can be an amazing part of a Bali family trip, but it also feels a bit more rugged and spread out compared to places like Sanur or central Canggu. A few simple preparations can honestly make beach days and getting around much easier with kids.

Most families rely on Grab, private drivers or scooters to get around Uluwatu. Beaches, restaurants and beach clubs are spread across the Bukit Peninsula, so even relatively short distances usually require some form of transport.

For families with younger kids, we personally found using Grab or a private driver much easier than scooters, especially after long beach days with bags, towels and tired children. Scooters are very common in Uluwatu, but traffic around the Bukit Peninsula can still feel busy and chaotic at times, especially near popular beach areas around sunset.

Packing well makes a big difference in Uluwatu because many beaches involve stairs, strong sun exposure and rougher beach access compared to other parts of Bali.

Things we personally found most useful in Uluwatu with kids:

We personally prefer visiting most beaches in Uluwatu earlier in the morning, especially with younger children. Temperatures are usually more comfortable, beaches feel less crowded and conditions are often calmer compared to the hotter afternoon hours.

Beach conditions can also change a lot depending on the tide and season. Some beaches become rocky during low tide, while waves at places like Dreamland can become very strong during parts of the year.

Many beaches and cliff viewpoints in Uluwatu involve stairs, uneven paths and limited fencing, especially around sunset viewpoints and temple areas. Keeping younger children close is very important near cliffs and steeper beach access points.

Monkeys around Uluwatu Temple and sometimes near Padang Padang Beach can also be surprisingly aggressive. We’d recommend keeping sunglasses, snacks and loose items packed away while walking through these areas.

Medical facilities around Uluwatu are generally more spread out compared to areas like Sanur, although larger clinics and hospitals near Nusa Dua are still reachable by car when needed. We’d still recommend bringing basic medicines and good travel insurance when visiting Bali with kids.

Uluwatu is one of our favorite areas in Bali for beach scenery, sunsets and relaxed villa stays with kids. While it’s not the most walkable or easiest destination with young children, we still think it works surprisingly well for families who enjoy slower beach days and exploring different parts of the Bukit Peninsula.

For us, Uluwatu works best as part of a larger Bali itinerary with kids, especially when combined with places like Ubud, Lovina or the Nusa Islands with kids for a completely different side of Bali.
