Our Sekumpul Waterfall Adventure with Kids
Last year we did the π Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep waterfalls hike. That hike was definitely more challenging than Sekumpul. This time, we took on Sekumpul with our 3- and 4-year-olds. Honestly, they werenβt in much of a walking mood that day π . Most of the hike they were comfortably strapped in the carrier, which made the trip a bit heavier for us, especially climbing back up those stairs.
Down in the valley, the scenery was stunning, with three waterfalls to explore: Sekumpul, Hidden and Fiji. The trail involves walking through water and often stepping over slippery stones, so careful footing is a must. At these trickier moments, having a sturdy baby carrier is essential for kids under 4 or 5.
Once we reached the waterfalls, the kids had fun playing in the shallow streams. You can swim there too, but the water is very cold so we decided to skip that. The hike back up, carrying kids on our backs, was definitely tough but doable with enough breaks.
All in all, Sekumpul is absolutely worth it and quite manageable, especially if you are reasonably fit. So if you can handle a bit of exercise and are prepared for a bit of adventure, this is a fantastic family outing.

1. How to Get to Sekumpul Waterfall with kids
Sekumpul Waterfall is located in North Bali and there are several ways to get there. We have heard there might be some fake entrances, but we are not entirely sure if that is true. To be safe, we recommend using the official entrance. You can find it here on Google Maps.
π Travel times from other areas in Bali
- Ubud: about 2.5 hours drive
- Lovina: about 45 minutes
- Munduk: about 30 minutes
- Canggu, Seminyak, or Kuta: 3 to 3.5 hours
We included the waterfalls in our π 2-week Bali itinerary, check it out if you are planning to visit Bali with kids.
πββοΈ Mandatory guide at the entrance
At the official entrance you must hire a guide. There are two options:
- Hidden Waterfall and Sekumpul Waterfall for 150,000 IDR per person. Kids pay half price.
- Hidden, Sekumpul, and Fiji Waterfalls for 250,000 IDR per person. Kids pay half price.
You can start with the 150,000 IDR option and decide at the waterfalls if you want to add the Fiji Waterfall. Our kids were honestly not up for it. They were more interested in snacks and splashing than extra waterfalls.
βArrange yourself or book a tour?
If you stay in North Bali and like a bit of adventure, you can arrange transport yourself with a driver or scooter. We do not recommend scooters with small children because of the road conditions. Parking is free at the official entrance.
If you do not stay in North Bali or want to make things easier, a full North Bali tour including transport, guide, and entrance fees is a great option. This is ideal if you want to see more places without the hassle of organizing everything yourself.

2. The Hike with Kids: What to Expect
The Sekumpul waterfall hike is doable with kids, but it is not just a quick walk. Expect a mix of stairs, slippery paths and river crossings, with stunning jungle views along the way.
Quick Tips for Visiting Sekumpul Waterfall with Kids
- ποΈ Take a motorbike for the first part (50k IDR per adult) to save 30β45 minutes.
- β οΈ Roads are steep β hold on tight and ask the driver to go slow.
- ποΈ Expect stairs, water crossings and slippery rocks.
- π Wear water shoes or shoes with good grip.
- πΆπ» Keep kids close or use a baby carrier for toddlers.
- π₯Ά Sekumpul, Hidden and Fiji waterfalls are within five minutes of each other. Hidden is swim-friendly but very cold.
ποΈ Taking the Scooter Shortcut
You can choose to do the first part on a scooter (motorbike). You sit at the back and your child sits in the middle. This saves you about 30 minutes of walking or 45 minutes with kids. You will arrive directly at the stairs that lead down to the waterfalls. The ride costs 50k IDR per adult. The roads are steep, so hold on tight. Drivers can go quite fast, so it is worth asking them to slow down.
ποΈ Steps, Streams and Viewpoints
The first part is mostly stairs, but there are enough viewpoints where you can already see the waterfalls. Once you reach the bottom you have to walk through water and over slippery stones. Hold on to the railing and keep your children close, or use a baby carrier for safety.

π¦ The Three Waterfalls
Fiji, Sekumpul and Hidden Waterfall are about five minutes apart. At Hidden Waterfall you can swim, although the water is quite cold. Sekumpul is the largest, but all three are beautiful. Our kids were not in the mood for Fiji this time, but we had seen it before on a trip without kids.

3. What to Bring for a Visit to Sekumpul Waterfall with Kids

- π Shoes with grip or water shoes
- πΆπ» Baby carrier for toddlers

Final Thoughts: Is Sekumpul Waterfall Worth Visiting with Kids?
Bali has many stunning waterfalls, but Sekumpul really stands out. The jungle setting, multiple falls, and shallow streams make it a fun little adventure for families. It is peaceful, beautiful, and not overly crowded, which makes it a perfect spot for a family day out.
Our kids had a great time splashing in the streams, and even though the hike requires a bit of effort, it is very doable if you take it slow and use a baby carrier for the little ones.
