There’s also a nice mix between beach time and excursions. Families can visit waterfalls, temples, viewpoints, and nearby islands, or simply enjoy relaxed days at the resort. And although Thailand is famous for its curries and street food, we still remember finding one of the best pizzas we had anywhere in Thailand here, which says a lot about how easy it is to travel comfortably on Koh Samui.

Chaweng Beach is one of the best beaches in Koh Samui thanks to its long stretch of soft sand and easy access to restaurants and facilities. Despite being lively in some areas, parts of Chaweng are still very suitable for families.

Koh Tao has one of the most tropical island atmospheres in Thailand, with clear water, palm-lined beaches, and viewpoints overlooking small bays. It’s especially rewarding if your trip includes snorkeling or diving with older kids, as marine life is easy to see even close to shore.

Even though we spent five days on Koh Tao and had rain for most of the trip, it still ended up being one of our favorite islands in Thailand. That says a lot about the atmosphere here. During one of our stays, a storm kept us on the island longer than planned and we even missed our international flight home because boats couldn’t leave the island. It was stressful at first, but we ended up enjoying a few unexpected extra days on Koh Lipe, which says a lot about how special this island feels once you’re there.
