Phuket is large and diverse, and choosing the right area matters more than choosing the most luxurious hotel. A good location means fewer car rides, easier beach days, and the flexibility to head back for naps or quiet time. The wrong location can turn simple days into logistical puzzles.

Our Experience Staying in Kamala with Kids

We compared several areas carefully before our trip to find a location that would work well with young children, and Kamala felt like the best match for our kids at the time (they were 1 and 3). We visited a few other areas during our stay, and honestly, Kamala was exactly what we hoped for: calm, friendly, soft sand, easy places to eat, and a relaxed vibe that never felt overwhelming.

Staying in Kamala also made the practical side of the trip easier: beach time, meals and quiet moments at our accommodation were all simple to combine with young kids.

For a future trip we would definitely consider Kata or Karon too. They looked wonderful and also very family friendly, just a bit more active and lively than Kamala. In the end, all three areas are great for families. It really depends on what you enjoy the most: laid-back, a little more active, or somewhere in between.
