The main limitation is baby formula and specific brands, which can be harder to find or different from what you’re used to. We personally always brought our own baby formula, just to be sure we had exactly what we needed.

Wildlife areas such as Sepilok are also manageable with a baby. The walkways at the orangutan rehabilitation centre are easy to navigate with a baby carrier, and visits are usually short and well structured.

Staying along the Kinabatangan River is possible with a baby, but requires more preparation. Lodges are located deep in the rainforest and baby supplies are not available nearby. Safaris can last several hours, and baby life jackets are usually not provided, so it’s important to bring everything you need from Sandakan.

Island areas near Semporna are the most challenging with very young babies. Boat rides can be long or rough depending on the weather, and many overwater resorts have limited facilities and supplies.
